Skin Care with Ayurveda

Have you ever tried a cream that your friend swore by and it did nothing for you? Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of understanding your Mind-Body type because for great skin (and health!), there is no such thing as a "one-size-fits-all" solution.

What does that mean?

In order to have great skin, one must be healthy and that all depends on what one does, both internally and externally. It means eating right for your body and its current environment. And it also means using the right products on your skin because believe it or not, we absorb everything that we put on it.

I have been on quite a journey with my Vata skin and I am excited to share these tips with you! I have been battling eczema since I can remember. I would get rashes in the summer especially and very, VERY dry skin in autumn.

Here are 5 Tips to Amazing Skin with Ayurveda:

1. Learn about your Mind-Body Type and Eat Accordingly

Digestion is KEY to Great Skin. If you can digest everything that you eat and give your body what it needs, this will strengthen your body's first barrier, the SKIN!

2. Add Good Oils to Your Cooking/Food

Most people are using oils wrong. Throw out all the vegetable oils and buy quality oils like ghee made from organic cows' milk, coconut oil, anything cold-pressed. Read ingredients and try to only get the highest grade oils.

3. Weekly Neem Face Masks

Neem has been used for centuries in India for all its great detoxifying properties. And it has brought my facial skin care routine to a whole new level. Mix a tablespoon of powdered neem with fresh filtered water (add enough to get a paste-like consistency), lightly wet face, pat dry, apply the neem paste generously on the face, lay down and relax (meditate!) for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off. I like to apply Argan oil after the mask. Hello soft skin!

4. S L E E P

Nothing will give you better skin than adequate rest! Start to wind down around 8 pm by turning off all electronic devices and nothing is more relaxing than a nice, hot shower followed with a Self-Massage with oil!

5. Nightly Oil Body Massage for Self-Love

If you are mainly Vata like me, this "air" energy needs lubrication year-round. My rashes stopped when I started massaging my body nightly with coconut oil, which has a cooling property. But my favorite oil for both my face and body is Argan oil. This is my go-to oil because it just absorbs so easily into the skin.

Love and light,
